UPDATE – Ofcom decision

Ofcom have announced that the rebate currently paid against 0870 numbers will shortly come to an end.

0870 numbers cost the caller about 8ppm daytime

As such, many organizations that may rely on this rebate to fund improvements to their call centre operations are moving to alternative numbering solutions such as:

• 0871 numbers – which allow a call rebate of up to 6ppm
• 0871 numbers cost the caller up to 10ppm

Or:

• 0844 numbers – which allow a call rebate of up to 2ppm
• 0844 numbers cost the caller up to 5ppm

Tariffs for all UK NGNs are summarised below:

• 0800 numbers (free to the caller)
• 0844 numbers (up to 5p per minute)
• 0845 numbers (charged at the old “local” rate)
• 0870 numbers (charged at the old “national” rate)
• 0871 numbers (up to 10p per minute)
• 09 numbers (premium rate)
